The City of Chadron, Nebraska (Pop. 5,861) is accepting letters of application for the position of City Manager.  Starting salary is negotiable, depending upon qualifications.  The City offers an exceptional full benefit package which includes, but is not limited to, health, dental and life insurance; city employee pension; vacation, sick leave and holidays.

Chadron offers educational, cultural and athletic activities through Chadron State College.  There is also a wealth of outdoor recreational opportunities with the close proximity of two state parks: Chadron State Park and Fort Robinson State Park, as well as National Forest lands.  Chadron is located south of the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota and west of the Nebraska Sandhills.  The area is noted for its Old West History and unique natural beauty.  Chadron is the Dawes County seat.

The City of Chadron has a City Manager form of government, with five councilmembers elected at large.  The City Manager reports to the City Council and works under the broad policy guidance of the Council.  The annual budget for the current fiscal year is approximately $16.4 million with 45 full-time employees.  Chadron is an ICMA recognized community.

A bachelor's degree in public administration, political science, business management or a closely related field, and experience in municipal and business administration is desired, but not required.  MBA or MPA preferred.  ICMA, Certififed Public Manager is also preferred.  The position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all City departments.  The ideal candidate must have strong work ethics, values and excellent communication skills.

Police Officer PDF Print E-mail

The City of Chadron, Nebraska Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Applications may be requested from the Secretary of the Civil Service Commission, Box 390, Chadron, NE 69337-0390. Applications will close on January 27, 2012. Those applicants accepted will be notified for additional testing/interview requirements.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum age 21 years
  • Excellent physical condition
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be of good moral character with no felony conviction
  • Pre-employment drug test and psychological test are required
  • Nebraska Certified Officer is preferred but is not required

Salary based on qualifications and experience with excellent benefit package. Applicants may be required to travel to Chadron more than once to participate in the selection process.
