Plumbers and Electricians are required to be licensed to do business in Chadron. A $35 occupation tax is required. Please inquire about bonding requirements and reciprocating a license from another jurisdiction. Licenses are issued on a calendar year basis, and renewable each April. If you live in city limits you can apply for a hand gun permit through the Chadron Police Department. You will need a driver’s license that reflects your current address and $5.00 to process the application. If you live in the county you will need to get your permit through the Dawes County Sherriff’s office.Police Department

You can obtain a copy of your accident report resulting in less then $1000 in damages through the Chadron Police Department for $5.00. If the accident resulted in more than $1000 in damages you can obtain a copy of your accident report through the Chadron Police Department for $5.00 or you can get it through the Nebraska Department of Roads website.

You can come into the Chadron Police Department to retrieve a police report for $5.00. However, the Chief of Police will review and approve the report and remove any information he deems non-public before it will be released.

There is a $38.50 service fee to reconnect during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and it’s a $110 service fee to reconnect after hours.

Bills are sent out on the 25th day of the month. We do have the option of emailing your bill also. Please contact us if you are interested in going paperless. Payment is due on the 15th of the following month. On the 16th a $16.50 late charge is assessed. Disconnect notices are sent out around the 1st of the month stating the past due amount and when disconnect day is.

No, items with steaks are not allowed in the parks due to The City of Chadron having underground sprinkler systems in all parks. The steaks could damage the pipes of the sprinkler system if placed in the wrong area.

Each town served by SWANN trucks is collected twice weekly. Roughly half of the town is collected on Monday and again on Thursday, with the other half collected on Tuesday and Friday. Wednesdays are used to collect the green dumpsters (grass and leaves) from April thru November. Holidays force us to shorten the collection interval or abandon the green dumpster collection. First and foremost it is the law. It is also a great identification tag to get your lost dog back to you. There are many cases where a dog gets loose from its owner, and is able to be reunited because of the license. No dog shall be harbored, kept, or owned without displaying a valid registration tag. The law applies regardless of whether the dog is kept inside or out.Animal Control

All dogs, six (6) months old or older, are required to have a City of Chadron Dog License. Below is some helpful information regarding City of Chadron Dog Licenses.
As of September 2019 the current City of Chadron Dog License fees are as follows:
January of each year, City of Chadron Dog Licenses will be available at the following rates:
- Altered dogs (Spay or Neutered): $5.00
- Intact (Non-altered dogs): $15.00
- Replacement tags, in case yours is lost, are available for one half (1/2) the original fee.
NOTE: A thirty-day grace period is also allowed for anyone who acquires a new dog, moves into the area with a dog, or has a puppy that turns six (6) months old after February 1st of each year, allowing dog owners to purchase City of Chadron Dog Licenses at the above rates.February 1st through December 31st of each year, City of Chadron Dog Licenses will be available at the following rates:
- Altered dogs (Spay or Neutered): $20.00

- Replacement tags, in case yours is lost, are available for one half (1/2) the original fee.
You can purchase a City of Chadron Dog license at your local veterinarian or at the Chadron Police Department. Please remember the following when considering your City of Chadron Dog License:- Dogs under the age of six (6) months old do not require a City of Chadron Dog License.
- When purchasing a City of Chadron Dog License, proof of Rabies vaccination is required.
- City of Chadron Dog Licenses need to be renewed January 1st of every year.
Advantages of purchasing a City of Chadron Dog License include:
- If your dog gets loose and is located by Animal Control, the tag number allows an easy way to locate you, the owner.
- In the event that your dog is impounded, if you have no prior Dog at Large offenses within twelve (12) months, the impound fee will be waived. Current impound fee is $40.00.
- It is a quick way to identify if your dog, or someone else, has a current Rabies vaccination, so if you see a Dog at Large, you will have some assurance that the dog is healthy.

If you or your pet loses a license, you can request a duplicate tag for ½ the price of the originally issued license. If your original license was issued for an intact dog, and you have since had your dog spay or neutered, bring proof into the Chadron Police Department and a duplicate license will be issued for ½ of the discounted price for spay/neutered dogs.

The ownership of a current dog license can be transferred to another owner. The current owner on file, or executor of the current owner's estate, must present proof of transfer of animal signed by the original owner of the animal.Animal Control
