If you live in city limits you can apply for a hand gun permit through the Chadron Police Department. You will need a driver’s license that reflects your current address and $5.00 to process the application. If you live in the county you will need to get your permit through the Dawes County Sherriff’s office.

2. How do I get a copy of an accident report?

You can obtain a copy of your accident report resulting in less then $1000 in damages through the Chadron Police Department for $5.00. If the accident resulted in more than $1000 in damages you can obtain a copy of your accident report through the Chadron Police Department for $5.00 or you can get it through the Nebraska Department of Roads website.

3. How do I get a copy of a police report?

You can come into the Chadron Police Department to retrieve a police report for $0.25. However, the Chief of Police will review and approve the report and remove any information he deems non-public before it will be released.

4. If an incident happens outside of city limits, what law enforcement agency will handle my call?

Your call will be dispatched by the Chadron Police Department to the Dawes County Sherriff’s Office or the Nebraska State Patrol if you live in Dawes County.

5. How many law enforcement officers does the City of Chadron have?

The City of Chadron maintains a force of 15 personnel. One Police Chief, One Lieutenant, Three Sergeants, and Ten Police Officers.
